Eligibility Criteria for BITSAT 2009



This post is to clear any doubts about eligibility criteria for BITSAT 2009


  • You should have an aggregate score of more than 80% in your Maths,Physics and Chemistry and atleast 60% in each of Maths,Physics and Chemistry

  • They consider only your 12 class marks...which means that your 11 class marks are not considered (Here 11 class means Intermediate First year in some boards...Only your Intermediate second year marks are considered).

  • You should add your laboratory examination marks to your 12 class(Inter 2 year) score in Maths,Physics and Chemistry.

  • Only students from Maths, Physics and Chemistry background can apply for BITSAT - 2009. (Bitsat - 2008 allowed students from BiPC(Biology Physics and Chemistry) to apply but this time they are not allowing students without Maths background to attempt the exam)

  • Only students who have passed in 2008 or writing their 12 class examination in 2009 are eligible for BITSAT - 2009.

  3. I don't understand... What is meant by getting aggregate 80 in all three and then 60% in each? 60% in each of PCM will give an aggregate of 60% in PCM only...
    Please clarify

  4. Hmmm so it is like this

    Consider the example of Andhra Pradesh board...We have Maths 1 and Maths 2 in Intermediate 2 year(i.e. 12 class) for 150 marks

    We have Chemistry for 60 + 30(lab test) = 90 marks

    We have Physics for 60 + 30(lab test) = 90 marks

    So even if you get 60% in Physics i.e. 54 marks in Physics but if your total score out of 330 marks(150+90+90) is greater than 80% i.e. 264 you are qualified to appear in Bitsat 2009

    The point is you must get atleast 60% in each subject

    i.e. 90 marks in Maths,54 in Physics, and 54 in Chemistry

    But the total should also cross 264 i.e. 80%

  7. And guess what? I get 263! :( I ament elligible for BITS.


    However ive given the paper for re-evaluation. Hopefully,a mark would increase.It would make me elligible.


    But do we need to produce our marksheet at the time of writing the examination or can we show it at the time of counselling?



    And god forbid, If i dont gain that one mark, IS writing the supplementary exam a good idea? Cos for AP Board, one needs to write all the exams all over again! That includes practical records and Practical Examinations

  8. @Anonymous :Sad....No you dont need to produce your mark sheets at the examination...

    No for BITSAT if you are writing the supplementary exams you must write all exams irrespective of which board you belong to.....just writing one exam wont do...

  11. today i have given BITSAT exam just now and has got a score of 329 marks. This was my II attempt.Last year i met an accident so my boards didn't go well as i obtained 75% agg in pcm-- is there a chance that they would consider me for admission as i really want to go in bits

  13. well paper was almost similar but comp to last yr i was well prepared this yr.....also sir i had a frnd of mine who didnt get 80 pc in pcm but in his ii attempt in 2007 he got in bits goa....is there any way any consideration that they would make otherwise i will really be shattered coz i hav 50 pc chance only for iit and aieee ---u just cant say..i mean bits is ii best only to iits... i wud be grateful if u cud tell me a way for admission ...any approach or somethin like that..coz my score is also gud

  14. @Shrey : No dude....you are mistaken....BITS never allows a student below 80% to join BITS...there is no recommendation or reservation of any kind in BITS

  15. I THINK THE POST IN YOUR BLOG REGARDING ELIGIBILITY IS WRONG.WHEN I CONSULTED BITS HYDERABAD FOR CLARIFICATION THEY TOLD THEY CONSIDER BOTH I YR AND II YR IN PCM AGGREGATE0(80%)

  16. @Anonymous : Dont think so....For the past 4 years they have only considered only the II year PCM marks and not the first year....and they have not changed the clause in the brochure....

    I am 100% sure it is 12 class marks alone...

    I will also clarify with the admissions office and let you guys know

    bt i hv one doubt regarding dat....
    if A scored 300 nd B scored 270 they both wud get dual m talkin abt pilani campus....(though different msc subject)...wich doesnt matters much......
    for ex in their first year both A &B got same maarks then who wud be preferd 4 d specific branch 4 their BE

  18. @Anonymous : BITS has no fixed number of seats for any discipline....if two guys get the same score they will get the same degree :)

    Say A and B get the same score( we call it CGPA) after first year then either A and B will get compsci or if they cannot accomodate both A and B in CompSci both A and B will get EEE (just an example not the exact degrees)

    I got 220! Do I stand a chance in getting into the campuses this year atleast for the 3rd counselling?

    I have managed to find out my relative performance though! Most of our college toppers got in the range of around 270-300s.(one of em got 380!! But we arent talkin abt him!)

    I mean! these guys scored 350+ on a sample 2008 BITS Paper!


    Aur baat rahi standard of the paper. Math was very easy. Physics was relatively tougher. Chemistry was theoretical mostly! it was easier than AIEEE!

    i appeared for bitsat 2009 and i got marks way below my expectations. i wish to give the papers for re-evaluation. can you please tell me the procedure for the same? i checked the bitsat official website but i couldn't find any mention of re-evaluation over there.

  24. i got a score of 365 in bitsat
    & 2289 in iitjee, 668 in aieeebtech(148 in state), 15 in b.arch

    if i go for iit i want a seat in 5 old iits
    but i dont get a good course e.g. metallurgy, ocean, mining, civil etc.

    so sir

    i wud like to no
    wat do u suggest

  25. @Anonymous : A very very tricky situation..One thing is for sure you will always enjoy your life and have a safe future whatever college you join

    And most importantly go with your interest..If you love CompSci go for BITS...have no particular interest in any degree then go for an IIT tag
