Physics is the most tricky part in any Engineering entrance examination. It is more about analyzing the given situation with those of the standard models...You need to keep your eyes open for that tricky part which might be the difference between you getting a good score in BITSAT or not.....
In short PHYSICS is the most important subject for any Engineering Entrance examination not only BITSAT.
Many BITSians (students from BITS Pilani) felt that BITSAT physics was tougher than AIEEE as it was more tricky, required more of analyzing things and having a clear idea of concepts
How to study Physics for BITSAT?
- Preparation of Physics for BITSAT or any other engineering entrance examination is same- Ask questions...Think about a question....Spend time analysing standard questions....what variations are possible with a given question
- It is not essential to solve lengthy problems but it is very important to understand the underlying concept while solving problems
- Blindly following a standard method during practicing problems is not good....Just question yourself why this method is being followed....
- Solve the theory questions at the back of HC VERMA....It will give you crystal clear idea about any topic
- Every topic in PHYSICS is important according to me....One of my friends had 19 out of his 40 questions from Mechanics/related to Mechanics....Another had around 17 from Electrostatics....Another had 14 from Optics...So if you think you can just study 12 class syllabus and write BITSAT or only 11 class syllabus then you might get through in Maths and Chemistry but not Physics as so many topics are inter related
- A surface tension problem can be related to coservation of Energy problem or a thermodynamics problem can be coupled with a Kinematics problem - It is huge world of permuations and combinations of different topics
- Though there are not many topics in Physics which are straight forward and not that tricky you need to study those
- People who are good with Mechanics generally score better in any Engineering exams - so guys who have not done free body diagrams and some other core mechanics concept you need to spend some time with these topics
- Electrostatics has the shortest and trickiest questions....try by hearting some basic model problems involving Bio Savarts Law and Amperes law
- Optics probably has more method based problems than any other topic....try to revise these optics
- And as always dont forget to by heart the basic problems and formulas
- And finally try to complete your syllabus
1.4 Fundamental measurements in Physics (Vernier calipers, screw gauge, Physical balance etc)
2.5 Uniform circular motion
2.6 Relative motion
4.2 Conservation of momentum - Very important
6.5 Conservation of angular momentum - Very important
6.6 Rolling motion
7.2 Gravitational potential energy, Escape velocity
8.3 Viscosity and Surface Tension - try checking out the water bubble problems
8.4 Bernoulli’s theorem
10.4 Doppler Effect - might get easy problems from this topics
11.5 2nd law of thermodynamics, Carnot engine – Efficiency and Coefficient of performance
14. Magnetic Effect of Current
14.1 Biot-Savart’s law and its applications
14.2 Ampere’s law and its applications
14.3 Lorentz force, force on current carrying conductors in a magnetic field
14.4 Magnetic moment of a current loop, torque on a current loop, Galvanometer and its conversion to voltmeter and
ammeter
17. Modern Physics -Important - Just by hearting stuff - Easy problems
17.1 Dual nature of light and matter – Photoelectric effect, De Broglie wavelength
17.2 Atomic models – Rutherford’s experiment, Bohr’s atomic model
17.3 Hydrogen atom spectrum
17.4 Radioactivity
17.5 Nuclear reactions : Fission and fusion, binding energy
One of the guys asked my Is it enough if I study for 5 hours a day - I said - "Ya sure......but you need to spend 10 out of the next 19 hours solving Physics problem's in your mind"

Hey, I thought bitsat physics was easy! like 100+ is very achievable.... my friend who got AIR 7.5k in aieee got 105 mks in bitsat physics last year. And 1 guy Sivacharan Reddy told me he got 120/120 in bitsat physics(and his total was 330)... So how come you're saying that bitsat phys is tuffer than aieee? better let me know, cuz physics is supp to b my strong pt!
ReplyDelete@Dylan : Most people who are not from CBSE board find Physics to be tough in general...Guys from CBSE generally have an advantage...They find Physics easy and they generally understand the trickier parts as they are used to solving such problems for your board exams
ReplyDeleteBut for guys from state board it is different...Physics is tough....On the other hand they find Maths to be easy :)
In simple it means if you are good at Physics you will find BITSAT Physics very easy as no lengthy problems are asked...but if you are weak...you will find it tougher than AIEEE as you wont find straight forward problems :)
Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteCan i refer arihant for doing problems on monthly magazines by MTG?what's ur take on it.
ReplyDeleteSIR,i am preparing maths from r.d. objective and chemistry from ncert book . do i need to practice jee screening test papers and study books like o.p. tandon and arrihant for chemistry and for maths r.d. objective sufficient
ReplyDeleteshreya
thanx:).no i dint take it seriously;).
ReplyDeletei have been takin these practise testz..the problem is...by the time i reach arnd 120 questionz....both my eyes as well as brain getz overheated:D..i guess a bit more of practise will help.btw how does the physics section of minglebox sample paper compare with the original bitsat paper..i got around 35 or 36 outta 40 in phy...but i sumhow feel that da paper was not what u call tricky.and yeah since theres not much days left..shuld i concentrate on areas in which i m weak at or do a lot of papers?
@Anonympus : I dint get you....Can you be clear...I thought Arrihant and MTG were different..Anyways follow on good book/cd
ReplyDelete@shreya : Preparing from NCERT is fine...but it would be good if you practice few problems from the well known books like O.P.Tandon / Arrihant
JEE screening will surely help but go for them only if you have time to complete the syllabus
And I dont know about R.D. objective...I know a few books...doesnt mean R.D. is a bad book....If it is a standard publication do go for it
@torque: A valid point raised by you...
This is what my Bitsexam site starts with -"There are many people who still believe that there is no difference between a written test and an online test. But they should realise that the most important thing while writing an online exam is having high concentration levels for the whole of three hours."
And for Physics as I have written in my previous comment - The trickiness of Physics is in our head...If you love Physics you will never find it tricky rather intriguing :)
sir can u please temme da level of these mock papers given in bitsat explorer ( not da ones in their cd but da ones wich are there in the book itself)) ??
ReplyDeleteare they somewhat closer to bitsat?????
i ve been doinn it for the past 15 days and have been scoring in around 300-320 marks???? should i be optimistic of a score gud wnough to get me cs in pilani campus????
@Anonymous : Bitsat explorer is good cd....The questions in the book are of decent level...mostly BITSAT questions will be slightly tuffer or of same level
ReplyDeleteYou need to concentrate on your areas of mistakes...and reading new topics
You have to get a score of 350+ so build a strategy on the number of questions you are going to attempt and stuff before attempting a mock test
One must always aim for the highest...only then you can achieve what you are destined to
sir i find bitsat mock to take a lot of time how much time should we spend in each section
ReplyDelete@shibu : Dont spend more than one 1 minute on any question...Keep a clock beside you and let your mother/father/brother/yourself count the time and skip a question after every minute if you dont complete it.....After you are done with the 150 questions(it will take around 2 hours 15 min) solve the problems which you have left
ReplyDeletesir, does the bitsat computer rovide a clock which keeps ticking and tell yu how much time hav u gt left...and how does it provide u with skipping options?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous : yup it does...MTG i guess has the exact type of BITSAT model...or else you can download the sample mock test from BITS admission site
ReplyDeletesir what is best acoording to u
ReplyDeletearihant bitsat 2009 or mtg
@akansh : ANything would do....You dont study theory from those topics so it doesn't matter
ReplyDeletesir, i am solving arihant cd's and getting 370marks on an average
ReplyDeletebut online tests like those of pagebitsat or resonence are too difficult i reach only 260 there
wat do u think i should xpect?
plz.tell
@swapnil : You BITSAT will be in between Arrihangt and the tough ones...so dont worry...try concentrating on your areas of mistake....you will succeed
ReplyDeletesir!
ReplyDeletebut can i hope for a good stream at pilani
b/cos my jee was too bad got around 135
in aieee managed about 255
so, seriously want to crack bits with a good score
bitsat's on 19 what should i do now?
@swapnil : You JEE and AIEEE doesnt matter...your BITSAT prep does
ReplyDeleteCheck for other posts on this forum about how to crack BITSAT :)
hello sir, in Carnot engine what is the difference b/w efficiency and coefficient of performance (it is given so in the brochure).
ReplyDeleteSir, are TMH questions gud enough for all PCM? Do u hav ne idea if level of ques vary in bits nd dce?
ReplyDeleteI am an Engg student who started preparing for BITS on May 1st.My test is on June 8th.My score last time was 248.Please gimme some tips to prepare as the time is too less.
ReplyDeleteSir, i am from TN State Board.. and I dont have have any taste of NCERT books or the Arihant and all other list of books... the only thing I have is my state board books and TIME aieee books... but when I saw those books for the first time last week they seem to be of a higher level than my state board books... and what! i am feeling things difficult.. many concepts i have never heard of in my state board are coming in the tests and i feel vague and dejected at my scope.. is there anything i can do.. i need to clear BITSAT 2009 very badly... my scores in mock tests are'nt good too just around 100 and well i am performing well in the English and Chemistry part than physics and Maths which are most important.... can u please help me... i have my test in the last week of may... Adithya
ReplyDelete@Anonymous : Later...i dont remember all those topics...
ReplyDelete@Anonymous : Ya they are good...but study only those topics present in BITSAT syllabus
@aparna : I guess I mailed u :)..anyways refer to the article how to score aboeve 300 and individual subject wise techniques to crack BITSAT
@Anonymous : I am sorry bro but you need to have to revise from NCERT or NCERT related syllabus....start with Free Body Diagrams in Physics...you can complete them in a short time
sir,
ReplyDeleteI have always been very good at Physics n math.....was pretty confident I'd do well at exams ,, but one after the another my performance in these two is being much lower than expected. Rather, I have been doing good at a weaker subject like chem. I put the blame entirely on my exam strategy and temperament during exam. I would be grateful if u'd suggest me somethin on how to improve. I have my BITSAT coming up n don't wanna lose on this. Also, you could suggest me how to build up a routine to prepare for the same. Thank YOu!
@Skarbek : I am sorry I missed your comment
ReplyDeleteI will blame it on the exam strategy
1)Try to complete your syllabus
2)Revise and byheart the basic model problems in both Maths and Physics...never rely on deriving them in the exam..it is a simple wastage of time
3)Practice as many online papers as possible...
4)If you are that good in Maths and Physics you can surely crack BITSAT as it has easy papers for Maths and Physics...You might forget thing in chemistry but you should never forget the methods in Mathematics and the concenpets in Physics :)
5)Read the extra topics in Chemistry and spend enough time on chemistry also
6)A 11 hour schedule with 4 hours on maths , 3 hours on Physics , 3 hours on Chemistry and at the end of the day an extra hour on by hearting what ever problems/formulas/model problems/reactions you have read that day :)
7)Every sample test start with English then Chemistry then Mathematics and then Physics
i m gonna give bitsat 2mrow,meri bahut fat rhi hai
ReplyDelete@jatin : Hope....the only thing which keeps a man alive :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jatin
Thank you so much Mr.Arvind !! I hope this helps and brings me success!!
ReplyDeleteif i want to score 330+ then per day,how many hours of input shud i give??
ReplyDeleteif i am weak at physics and strong at math and moderate at chem.Shud i concentrate on my weak points or my strengths???my xam is on june 7th..plz help
ReplyDelete@skarbek : :)
ReplyDelete@pranov : As much as you can...time is not the criteria....your level of preparation is
@ashwathi : June 7...dude lot of time....you can do both...concentrate on weak points and also on your strengths :)
i have scored 79.4% in my +2 can i expect any seat in the bitsat if i atleast score a total of 320.:)
ReplyDeletegoutham i have my exams on 18 th .a few more topics to cover .should i go through them or should i practice more questions????
ReplyDelete@rakesh : Nope sorry dude....you can't even if you get 400+
ReplyDelete@Goutham : Practice tests from now and revise old topics....one-two hours daily on extra topics...not more than that....and whenever you find a memory based question from the topic you have not studied by heart both the question and the answer :)
sir,i'm the one who mailed u...
ReplyDeletei'm strong in math and a lil weak at org chem(d rest of chem i'm strong..) and weak at phy...shud i conc on my weak pts or get better wid my strengths???
@aparna : You have enough time to do both...concentrate on your weak points and also work on your strengths :)
ReplyDeletei'm getting realllly scared...i mean i have so much syllabus to complete...i've completed 50% i can say...but i'm really scared...looking at the others on the site and stuff...i mean d others have completed teh syllabus and revising and i'm stuck in i dunno what kind of a position...i can recollect everythign but i'm very scared...plz help if u can!!!
ReplyDeletehi this is venky plz say me is the paper will be 4 june setters because my xam is on june 7th
ReplyDelete@aparna : think it in this way...you have nothing to loose...give a tough fight...When you think about others performance you must feel jealous...but the jealousy should increase your determination to crack BITSAT.....try to complete as much syllabus as possible...never give up
ReplyDeleteFear will always pull you back....courage a step forward
@venky : Please read other posts before commenting...the paper wont be tough if it is as the last...it is just a rumour
ReplyDeletesir first of all thanks for providing info abt BITS which is not easily available .....I want to know abt english and logical resoning part..I have studied frm cbse board and always scored 90+ in english ...should I stick to basic grammar or follow any book??.....kindly tell me the book too.
ReplyDelete@harsh : Prepare from your books...no need to go for extra books
ReplyDeleteSir I had appeared for eamcet and aieee but did'nt score good in aieee.I am preparing for bitsat. My exam is on june6.I am solving online tests daily and spending 5-6 hours in revising concepts. But I am unable to solve any questions out of A.P.STATEBOARD EAMCET related concepts. Is it right time to prepare NCERT BOOKS NOW.I m refering 2 mtg explore for english and logical reasoning .PEASE SIR SUGGEST ME REGARDING THIS.
ReplyDelete@Ramya : Preparing from NCERT books is a must for BITSAT...you have more than 15 days...atleast try to complete some topics and Physics....maths will mostly be of same level...
ReplyDeleteWhile practising if you come across a new model problem or memory based question just by heart the method/answer...it should help :)
simply stick to the basics its the best way to crack any exams entrance
ReplyDeletewhat is cgpa?
ReplyDelete@CGPA : CGPA is the performance in college...bit tough to explain now...consider it like your % on a 10 scale
ReplyDeleteis there a lot difference in giving exam online..????..as all other engg. entrance exam are written..plz reply
ReplyDeletesir are the solutions to your sample tests here, available? i'd really like to see my mistakes
ReplyDeleteHi Kedar,
ReplyDeleteWe do not have the complete solutions. We will upload the key some time soon
My friend got 90% in PCM in first year, But he is getting less than 80% in 2nd year. Overall he is getting more than 80% but less than 80 in 2nd year. Please reply fast.
ReplyDeleteHey Bro...(Hope u wudnt mind me calling u that) I'm Sai Krishna ....I've got my bitsat exam on 27th may...As you posted in ur tips and tricks for respective subjects..I've been studying like this since 4 days.... 9 hrs a day ....
ReplyDeleteChemistry : organic & inorganic :OP Tandon
physical :ncert
Physics : HC Verma
Mathematics : ncert & Das gupta
and at the end of the day I am solving questions related to the topics covered frm Arihant ...
But I'm still not feeling confident especially with the calculus part of mathematics and physical chemistry..How do I improve my speed at solving questions..(I'm really slow and that is why I fared very very very bad in my vit entrance examination) ..considering only about 25 days left... do I put in even more time per day? Help me here please..I really do want to score well..Please reply soon ... I need to know the flaw in my preparation...I'm feeling really tensed right now....
And yes this is a really good thing you are doing...helping others crack bitsat....keep going :)
Hi Krishna,
ReplyDeleteCalculus needs a lot of practice. Increasing study hours wont help much. The way I see it you are almost
saturated. Just try to allocate more time to your weak topics and practice more problems from these topics.
Also make sure you maintain a mini notes of the basic/tricky problems and just go through them when you are free.
As for Physical Chemistry it is first important to complete the theory and for problems taking tests( I mean later on) would help. Do not worry much about tough problems in Chemistry now. First priority is completing syllabus and memorizing the basic model problems.
hello sir.. sorry for posting the following query under the wrong topic .. but i couldn find the page for this particular query..
ReplyDeletei need enat sample papers to practice..i hav searched everywhere but couldn find any sample paper .. i want to know the type of questions asked in that atleast.. i have no idea about how it's going to be..
can u please please help me out in this asap..
if possible it would be great if you could send an email to yvprashant@gmail.com ...
Hi Prashant,
ReplyDeleteI think same BITSAT papers would do. As for the exam pattern I have no clue
sir in the bitsat physics syllabus in heat and theermodynamics they did not mentioned about refrigerator so can we leave it ?
ReplyDeletesir in the physics syllabus in optics it is mentioned laws of reflection and refraction ,lenses and mirrors..........so should i study dispersion and total internal reflection and refraction at curved surfaces please reply sir........
ReplyDeleteu should look this. It might help u...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.a2zexam.com/TestSeriesDetailedView.aspx?TestSeriesID=14
Yup you should - when we say lenses all of these topics do come. You could have completed these topics by now instead of waiting for my reply :)
ReplyDeletesir,i have mi bitsat on 31st may 2010,i am almost through wid mi inorganic and parts u mentioned in d chem. tips page mi physics is also at an optimum level ,but i m low at maths..i know topics bt nt so confident like odrs..what shd i do??
ReplyDeletepls give sme last min. tips also asap
abhay
Sir, i want to ask about the question in the sample papers. The question is " A Gas is enclosed in a closed container and then it is accelerated horizontally, then what will be the pressure". The options were the pressure is more on the front side/rear side/upper/lower side or is same everywhere. The answer is same everywhere. But i disagree. I say that before accelerating the particles are distributed everywhere. After accelerating, the particles on the front side of the container experience a force on the left as seen from container frame of reference. So, the particles on the front side move towards left and the particles on the left strike the rear wall with larger force. So, the particles striking the front wall will be less and the pressure on the rear will be less and the pressure will be more on the rear side. So, i say that the pressure will be more on the rear side than in the front side of the container.
ReplyDeleteThere is huge glitch in your assumptions. When you take a gas into picture, you should apply only the gas laws.As you know, in gases (the gas laws) the pressure will be dependent only on the dimensions, temperature and the number of particles. In this case all V,T,n are constant. So, pressure shouldn't be affected.
ReplyDeleteTo add to it, also keep in mind that when all the gas particles are in random motion (at speed of light) and the motion of particles cannot be affected by normal velocity. Also If we enclose the gas within a container, we detect a pressure in the gas from the molecules colliding with the walls of our container. So, the overall gas distribution should remain same in the container. Hence , watever the external factors are, the pressure at any point in the container will always be equal to the pressure of the whole container and hence it should stay same.
ReplyDeleteIf i am correct, all the gas laws are derived from mechanics and when matter moves with the speed of light, it annihilates. So, i used pure mechanics and what is the wrong in using laws of mechanics.
ReplyDeleteWhen u consider a molecular level stuff, you can never take pure mechanics.Btw, another simplest, solution fro the question is by taking Boyle's law -> According to Boyle's law PV=k at constant temperature. Here the temperature and Volume are constant. So, no way you can say that the pressure varies. When u r dealing with gases, apply gas laws.. don't apply mechanics. The laws of mechanics you know of are applicable only for solid masses. Moreover, Pressure of Gas is totally different from that of a pressure exerted by a physical body.
ReplyDeleteIn gas Pressure is just the number of collisions. In solid bodies its the force per area they exert. The definition of Pressure itself is different for them! So, the answer is ->
Whenever you deal with gases, you should apply only gas laws and not the mechanics which u know of!!
hello sir, im Anusha. I feel memorizing all d chemical reactions n organic reactions is a lil bit difficult for me. i can solve d problems of the physical part. so can u give some tips?
ReplyDeletehi sir ,i am in class XII now and preparing for JEE,AIEEE and BITSAT..so plz give me some tips so that i can manage between the syllabi of abv mentioned xams.
ReplyDeleteif you aim for going in bitsat then..... you must immediately start your 12th class preparation and try solving ARIHANT book after the exam gets over. just relax dude don't wory .
ReplyDeleteJUST BE EVERYTIME A CONFIDENT PERSON.......................HOPE YOU SUCCEED
WHAT IS THE KINETIC ENERGY PER MOLECULE OF A MONOATOMIC AND DIATOMIC GAS ?
ReplyDeletePLEASE REPLY SOON
