Last moment tips for cracking BITSAT

Have any doubt...I mean any doubt whatever topic - Click to Comment

The things to concentrate on from now on - A summary of tips I have talked till now and some other extra tips :)...Hope you like this post

1)The time you are taking for solving each problem - Never take more
than 1 minute to solve a problem...If you cannot solve a problem
within a minute just leave it and come back to that question again
when you are done .
2)In the first 2 hours attempt only those questions which you are
confident of...If you have only a vague idea about a question just
skip it and later come back after 2 hours
3)You must read all 150 questions...who knows the 150th question may
be the easiest
4)Start with English...then Chemistry....then Maths and then Physics
5)Concentrate on the areas of you weakness...find out the topics in
which you are regularly committing mistakes...Try to revise those
topics
6)Try to read the extra topics not present in AIEEE or JEE syllabus
especially chemistry...you will get many memory based
questions...solving them means gaining extra marks as well as saving
time for other questions
7) If you think your target is 300 you will always end up with scores
below 300....Aim for the highest and you will reach where you are
destined to...Have a goal to solve atleast 140 questions in every mock
paper and read all 150 questions in every mock paper...This way you
will surely succeed

  4. @Ashwin Seth : :)

    @Anonymous : All the best

@Divya: There are in total 150 questions in BITSAT..If you attempt all 150 questions ( without leaving any answer blank) you can attempt extra 12 questions making it 162 questions paper

Ya the marking scheme is +3 and -1

Just check the link on the top right...you will find links to a post with complete 3 hr paper

  5. HELLO SIR,

I FINISHED MY IIT-JEE SYLLABUS WITH AROUND 80% CLEARITY BUT MY PAPER DID NOT WENT SO GOOD AND I'M EXPECTING A RANK AROUND 4000. WHILE PREPARING FOR BITSAT I'VE DISCOVERED THAT INORGANIC AND ORGANIC CHEMISTRY FOR BITS ARE VERY DIFFERENT FROM IIT-JEE AS THE SYLLABUS IS VERY LESS AS COMPARED TO JEE, ALSO ITS A BIT MORE THAN NCERT. STUDYING FROM MY NOTES AND JEE BOOKS SEEMS MORE THAN REQD. AND NCERT DOES NOT GIVE THE FEELING OF TOTALITY. KINDLY PLEASE SHOW ME THE CORRECT APPROACH FOR THESE TOPICS.

    THANK YOU,

    SANDEEP MERTIA

  16. hi sir, i had got 242 in bitsat last yr. this year my exam is on 20th may. i am done with maths and phy. i hav been practising arihant papers. i am gettin decent totals in phy( around 100 outta 120) and eng/logical reasoning(above 60 most times) bt struggling in chem...... shud i revise ncert books or solve more papers now.. i hav only 9 days left! moreover, i follow this sequence.. phy then english then maths then chem in bitsat papers.. do u think i shud modify this?
    ReplyDelete
  17. @Vaibhav : Try to complete the extra topics in Chemistry...and do basic revision of formulas and reactions...apart from attempting one paper a day try to spend more time on chemistry

Remember that these 9 days will decide your next 5-8 years future...so if you think your future is important to you do study well

All the best for your exam :)
    ReplyDelete
  18. sir ,i will be appearing for d exam on 20th...
and haven't yet studied experimental chemistry,is it quite important from examination point of view?
    ReplyDelete
  19. @sumit : Every topic in chemistry is important...and experimental chemistry according to me is very important...simply because they can only ask memory based questions...easy to score and saves a lot of time :)

  20. Rahul:
sir, my test date is 30th may, n abt 18 days left

so what should i practice.......right now i m doing the few topics which r left or i think i need to do.....n solving papers too

how many papers should i practice?
    ReplyDelete
  21. sir, i have been practicing arihant bitsat papers and have been scoring constantly in the range of 280-320,please tell me how can i improve my score to assure 300+ in the final bitsat exam. my exam is on 16/05/09. i usually score low in chemistry and English.
    ReplyDelete
  22. @Rahul : Complete the topics which are left....from 20 May onwards practice one paper per day and spend the rest of your time completing / revising topics

    3-10 papers

@Anonymous : Revise all your basics...no need to go for extra topics for now(as your exam is very close)...take one test per day and if you commit any mistake try to by heart the method and if it is memory based question then the answer

For 300 you need to attempt atleast 120 questions and do search for my post on how to cross 300 in BITSAT

All the best for your exam

  29. sir cud u plz giv the link to d post on how to score above 300 in bitsat??i searched but cudnt find it...plz reply
    ReplyDelete
  30. @Anonymous : I am sorry i only 2 books Arrihant an O.P.Tandon and both are very good...i dont know about other books

@niteesha : o.P.Tandon/Arrihant/Any good accepted book for JEE/AIEEE preparation / FIITJEE ,Narayana ,Brilliant any other coaching centre notes and stuff

@Anonymous : Check the post on last year cutoffs

@Sunil : You will get mech in BITS goa...tough to get in Pilani campus according to last year cutoffs...Goa will develop into one of the best colleges in India by the time you pass out...it has already achieved lot of success

@Rushabh : No they are not so different...you will surely be able to do lot of problems...but you also need to concentrate on the extra syllabus to score good marks...270 without any extra preparation is not impossible..but it is also tough

@Anonymous : A good strategy I applied for Inorganic....study for 1-2 hours everyday and then note down imp things in small sheets of paper...and before I sleep revise those sheets and after waking up in he morning again revise those sheets...Every weekend instead of studying new topics just revision stuff

And preserve all these sheets for final revision before exam

P.S : I was very good at inorganic but weak in Physical :)

@Anonymous : Phew....here is the link anyways How to cross 300 in BITSAT - Click Here

  33. i had prepared for AIeee and i have all concepts fresh in mind and i score 300 to 340 in BITSAT sample papers but i feel my confidence level is still low about my concepts and My AIEEE was good and i got 215 in that but my dream is to study in BITS pilani
    Aditya Karan
    ReplyDelete
  34. @Aditya : You have done well....try to study the extra topics and do extensive revision

You must be determined to study...spend 11-12 hours on studies every day...you need to get that score above 360+ in the sample papers

When you solve sample papers just note down the topics in which you are scoring less....and always try to attempt the extra 12 questions in the mock tests

Hope I have answered your queries
    ReplyDelete
  35. sir,
can u tell me what r the topics in chemistry which is not present in ncert, that's included in bitsat?.actually i'm writing my test on 26th.jst 9 more days.i have been doing prpration in maths, logical reasonng but not touched physics and small part of che.help me ?.plz tell me whether i must stress on my 11th portion of phy&che as i;m quite confi. onb 12th syll.plz do send me names of sites providing complete sample test! -sweta
    ReplyDelete
  36. @sweta : I dont have NCERT books with me now but you check it with the syllabus( I have written a post on complete BITSAT syllabus)

You must study your 11 portion...9 days is decent time to revise 11 topics and you can even prepare some new topics in Chem and physics...

From now on give one BITSAT paper everyday...spend the rest of the time revising old topics/studying new topics/correction of mistakes in the mock tests

  37. dear sir,

it may sound a bit awkward to u but for the questions based on paper-cutting patterns in l.r.,
can we actually tear a piece of papaer from the rough pages provided to us and draw the patternon them.........or is there any other trick for such ques.?
    ReplyDelete
  38. dear sir,

u've suggested to attempt English...then Chemistry....then Maths and then Physics......but with me the case is that my physics is exellent and far better than my chem n maths (NSEP qualified, INPhO top 100 rank holder...)or i can say that i rate my knowledge level of pcm as 90%,60% and 70% respectively........also eng. and l.r. at 90%.........so what shall be correct approach for me???

p.s. sorry the question just became tooooo long!!!
    ReplyDelete
  39. @Sandeep : Dont think so...

And for the attempting pattern I should have been more cautious

the thing being you attempt in a pattern by which you can attempt all 150 questions and at the same time score in the easy and medium level questions

If you think you can do Physics easily in a short time go for Physics first...but if you fail to balance your time you wont be able to attempt all other questions

So decide properly...and first practice the strategy in mock tests...then check it effectiveness and implement it in the final BITSAT

i have done my intermediate from ssc and my projected rank in the iitjee09 is 6000 and 5000 in aiee09 bt i have not read any ncert book so far. i m worried dat it might affect my bits entrance on june first....
P.S- i m following arihant bitsat 2009 currently. will dat do??????

  45. sir
i heard dat the phy-chem in bitsat are more theoretical than problematic unlike the samplepapers. der wer hardly 5-6 problems in physics. most of my friends have complained about it. is it true??
    ReplyDelete
  46. @sindhu : your peformance in JEE and AIEEE is good....just try to complete whatever extra topics possible in this 10 days....

Chemistry might be the only thing hindering your success in BITSAT so work hard...spend more time with it

@Anonymous : Yup that is the reason why I advice everyone to read basics properly....Some guys though get many problems in BITSAT physics...chemistry is always theoretical
    ReplyDelete
  47. sir, i m getting around 280-290 in MTG bitsat mock test, how much will i get in actual bitsat?
    ReplyDelete
  48. @Anonymous : Work hard...need to improve...try to cross 330 mark in MTG ...all the best
    ReplyDelete
  49. sir, does that mean that MTG is below bitsat level? what is the bitsat equivalent of a score of 318 in MTG?
    ReplyDelete
  50. how is the actual bitsat paper when compared to sample paper released in the bits website.....cos i found that paper very easy......except for chem
    ReplyDelete
  51. @MTG guy : You dont write one test and ask me to predict...you take many mock tests and then ask..anyways a score of 330 + consistently should help you to get a decent score..

@BITS sample paper guy : The test is easy..try BITSAT race or other sites
    ReplyDelete
  52. jus left 15 days for the exam...50%sylabus is completed ...from now on wat should be my strategy for this 15 days and will it be safe to complete sylaabus till 1 june..paper on 5 june..
    plzzz help..
    ReplyDelete
  53. @15 days left : Revise and from May 26 practice one test per day...spend rest of the time on revision...dont practice more than 1 mock test per day

And after you are done with your mock tests work on correcting your mistakes
    ReplyDelete

Plz elucidate a gud comparison b/w the first 150 and last extra 12 in terms of difficulty level and in this regard if it s advisable to attempt the extra by any means???

    ReplyDelete
  58. sir i had prepare lot for itsat i had done al questions of mtg book of chemistry ,physics ad maths did u think it will help me ad tell me what sould be strategy to attempt 125 questions exact right
    ReplyDelete
  59. @pratham : Dont study those topics now...revise other topics which you have already studies

And try to attempt 125-130 questions for a decent score
    ReplyDelete
  60. Karthik:Im solving arihant mock rite now.....getting gud scores above 300 consistently.....but while solving PAGE i find it difficult than arihant..I'v akmost finished all my mock papers.im getting aroun 240-280 in PAGE..which 1 is of bits level?..Im unable 2 project my score..whch 1 is gud?? plz help

  63. sir though i am through with the topics but still i tend to make mistakes at times , i just want some sort of assistance from u so that i can avoid these mistakes and perform the best in this one.It would be kind of u if u can provide me with some more tips coz i have got my exam on 19th of may.
    ReplyDelete
  64. Take the tests only in Firefox browser, IE is not working
    ReplyDelete
  65. The general tips are already provided by us. Incase, you want some specific tips, it will be helpful if u provide what ur specific problem is. As in, what type of mistakes are you committing etc.
    ReplyDelete
  66. sir the problem that i am facing is that i just tend to get confused btw the ans even though i try to do my revision work properly but still there comes out a point which then proves to be disastrous for me a silly mistake sometimes plz do help me tell me that how can i overcome it coz this is one of the biggest problem sir and i have gone through the online tests also sir and i found that sometimes a particular paper such as physics has majority ques from a single topic so is it always like this in the exam
    ReplyDelete
  67. Yeah,as BITSAT pulls out questions randomly from question bank, you can never expect which topic might have major weightage.. some times questions may be well-spread from all topics and some other times, they may all be from single topic. The best option is being prepared with all the topics thoroughly.

Regarding the silly mistakes problem, it happens to everyone including the paper-setters. The best method u can do to reduce the number of silly mistakes is sticking strictly to the time. As in, u need to plan before starting the test itself, how much time u r taking for each subject and stick to them. The best example strategy I can tell is like this :

    Maths -> 40
    Physics -> 45
    Chemistry -> 40
    Eng & LR -> 25
    Extra Time: 30

Now, for suppose, even if u finish Eng&LR section in 20 minutes, still stick to the timings. Now after the exam u will have a minimum of 30 minutes. Use half of it for Revising each question and check for silly mistakes. Remaining time , u can try to solve unattempted questions. Also, using Mark Review effectively can reduce the number of silly mistakes.

Try these techniques in Sample Tests first and use them in original test only if u r successful using this technique in Sample Tests
    ReplyDelete
  68. Hi Ankit,
The only way to overcome such things is practice and taking your mock tests seriously. Whenever you commit such silly mistakes, note them down in a book.... keep looking at it when you are free... You will never commit such mistakes again :)

Ya sometimes your paper might have majority of questions from one topic
    ReplyDelete
  69. Thank u so much for your kind advice sir i'll surely try to do it like this and lastly sir i want to ask u that what should be the minimum number of ques to be attempted from the phy and maths in the time mentioned by u, as sir i have same strategy incase of chem and english and it even works i am capable of doing all ques but as u know that even the other two are the deciding factor so what actually should be the strategy for the other two so that i can get a score above 350
    ReplyDelete
  70. sir
you have suggested that start the test solving english first!!
plz guide me how it will work...
doing chemistry physics maths and then chemistry what sort of problems would come up.
    ReplyDelete
  71. sir
you have suggested that start the test solving english first!!
plz guide me how it will work...

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hi Ved,
The logic is simple. You must be an situation to atleast look at all 150 questions and able to attempt 120-130 of them and also save time to recheck the missed out questions. English and Logical Reasoning hardly takes 15-25 minutes to solve and you can easily score 60+ there. Also Chem has many memory based questions. The only thing about memory based questions is that you either know the answers or you dont. Hence you again save a lot of time. This will provide ample time for Maths and Physics hence cances of scoring better
    ReplyDelete
  73. thank you sir
    i got your point!!
