1) What is this Second Semester Admission?
- To fill up the vacant seats in all the branches, BITS has second semester admission system
2) What is the eligibility criteria for Second Semester Admission?
- The basic requirement is same as that of first semester admission - For first semester eligibility criteria click here
- You must have written BITSAT 2009 which was conducted during May-June 2009 for second semester admission for the academic year 2009-2010 (i.e. January of 2010 onwards)
3) What is the selection criteria for Second Semester admission?
The selection criteria depends on 2 factors
- Number of vacant seats available
- Cutoff for that particular discipline(or degree or branch) in the previous semester. Generally the second semester cutoff for any particular discipline is higher than that of the first semester admission
4) I have xyz marks in BITSAT 2009 - Will I be selected?
- As I always say one cannot predict the cutoffs. Just cross your fingers , pray to god and hope that you can get into BITS . Else move on with your life :)
- Also see it to that your scores are above the First semester cutoff ( the basic criteria for selection if u ask me)
5) When will I pass out / How many years is this dual degree?
- It will effectivey take 4 years(8 semesters) from the date of your joining to pass out for a single degree student and 5.5 years(11 semesters) for a dual degree student.
- If you join in Jan 2010 you will pass out in Dec 2013 for a 4 years course and June 2015 for dual degree student
6) Do I need to give a separate examination for second semester admission?
- No . As I have said you must have written BITSAT 2009. If you have not written it then there is no point reading this article :)
7) How does second semester admission benefit me / Why is second semester admission beneficial / How good is second semester admission ?
- It is beneficial to those students who got good marks in BITSAT yet did not join BITS , wasting ( ya it wasting ) an extra year hoping to crack other competitive exams like JEE / AIEEE.
- Beneficial to those who did not apply for some degrees during the first semester or those who screwed up their preference order and did not get an admission into a desired discipline in BITS.
- You pass out in 4 years effectively wasting only 1/2 year, yet getting a degree from BITS.
- You ave equal opportunities as first semester admission students - there is no differentiation as such
8) What are the bad things about this second semester admission?
- Almost minimal - That you will have to do some courses with your batch mates and many with your juniors - But how does it matter - even dual degree students through first semester admission do many courses with their juniors
