The Indian Institution of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram is going to conduct it's own entrance examination for admission into the academic year 2010-11 called as ISAT - IIST Admission Test. Till last year (i.e. 2009) they had admission based on the IIT JEE rank followed by a personal counseling.
If your dream is aerospace or any related field then IIST is the answer. It gives scholarship covering all the expenses provided he/she performs well during the academic tenure.You will ultimately end up working with the best minds in the field of aerospace,avionics,astronomy etc.Currently it is a part of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre campus in Thiruvananthapuram with a new campus coming up. But there is one downside. You need to write a bond to serve ISRO ( Indian Space Research Organization) for 5 years.This shouldn't make you disappointed - because if your aim is to get into the best research organization's like NASA then your normal engineering degree might not help but an IIST degree will surely do.And at the end giving it back to your country is the highest honour and the greatest satisfaction one could ever have.
