How good is B.Pharmacy at BITS

The typical mindset of most engineering aspirants makes us believe that all other degrees than an Engineering degree is of no use. This has been taught to students from the day they prepare for their JEE, yet you find many people doing non engineering courses own more than an average engineer.

So how good is Bachelor of Pharmacy degree at BITS?
It is as good as any of the better Bachelor of Pharmacy degrees in India, but unlike the usual Biology students, it has lot of mathematical tinge to it as BITS takes in only students from Mathematics background.



The degree is well recognized throughout the world. But the placement scenario for B.Pharmacy throughout India is bad, except few companies. The same is the case with BITS. Except few guys who join an IT company or perform exceptionally well, the average placement is bad.

But most guys who opt for B.Pharmacy end up doing M.Pharmacy, and guys from Master of Pharmacy are one of the highest paid professions in many developed countries.

BITSAT 2009 CUTOFF SCORES - The CUTOFF For BITS 2009

Finally the cutoff of admission into BITS for the year 2009 from a credible source. According to my analysis there wont be much change in the cutoff... though the cutoff for Hyderabad may increase and Goa may decrease. This is not to say the Hyderabad is better than Goa..... Goa has established itself as one of the best engineering colleges in South India... Yet the prejudice of many parents about the conditions of Goa and also the fact that most students from Andhra Pradesh would prefer Hyderabad over Goa will add to this fact. Hyderabad still has a lot of time to develop into a great college, but it is still better than the EAMCET colleges in Andhra Pradesh. You can check the branch wise cutoff for BITSAT 2009 below.

Graduate Student Loans - Educational Loans for Graduation

In my 5 years as an student of a premier engineering college I have come across few students who have not preferred BITS/other good colleges because the university fees was quite high (not that high - not even half of what you pay for an IIM :) ) compared to the local government colleges.

This is for all such students who are not financially sound.

Most good engineering colleges have tie up with banks and you can get loans for your graduation. These college loans cover everything, from your books to even your pocket money that you spend, and some private student loans offer extra money for laptops also. You need not pay a single rupee till 6 months after you complete your graduation. Though interest rates for educational loans vary from one bank to another they are not that high and you can repay it in easy installments after you get a decent job. Some of the state governments offer government student loans and keep checking the newspapers for them.



So in short, do not worry about the financial matters for joining BITS. I myself got educational loan from Andhra Bank and the folks over there are very helpful and understand our situation well. Money has never been a problem for getting quality education and it should never be. All that matters is our determination to pursue it.

Properties of Triangles - Shortcut Formulas and Techniques

Some of the easy tips to score quickly in Mathematics especially questions related to Properties of Triangles. Would easily save a lot of time in your exam and score better over all.

These tips work only when you perfect them :)

In every triangle, the questions will mainly be related  to one of the following:
1) Area of a triangle : ½ * b * h - ½ * base * height
2) Perimeter of a triangle : a +  b + c ; a,b,c are sides of a triangle.
3) Circumscribed Circle - CircumCircle of a triangle - Circumcenter of a triangle
4) Inscribed Circle - InCircle of a triangle - Incenter of a triangle
5) Geometric Center of the triangle.- Centroid
6) Excircle - And the Excenters of a triangle
7) OrthoCenter of a triangle

What we will do is memorize all these values for the three common triangles i.e. Equilateral, Isosceles and Right Angled Triangle.

Equilateral Triangle: 

The good thing about an equilateral triangle is the problems related to it are very easy to solve. We will always assume that length of each side of an equilateral triangle is 1, which makes things very easy.



Area of an equilateral triangle :√3/4a² - Since a=1 in our case it is √3/4 which is 0.433 sq.units
Radius of CircumCircle :  a/√3 -> a=1 implies it is 1/√3 that is r = 0.577
Radius of Incircle : a/2√3 -> a=1 implies 1/2√3 that is 0.288
Incircle Radius = 1/2 of CircumCricle Radius
Distance from Centroid to any Side is the same as the radius of Circum Circle.

Altitude of Equilateral Triangle = a√3/2 -> a=1 implies √3/2 that is 0.866

Median Length =




So that would be √3/2a (here a=b=c) - same as Altitude
Altitude is also the median and bisector in an equilateral triangle so the same lenghth as above.

BITSAT 2010 TOUGHNESS - Feedback from People who have given BITSAT 2010

As promised we are here with the feedback of few of the guys who have written BITSAT 2010.But before that I need to talk something regarding BITSexam
Firstly I am very busy nowadays and I am unable to answer your BITSAT related doubts. Please remember that I am a student like you ( though I am doing an internship in a company) and BITSexam is just one of our passions which we(both me and Santosh) pursue during our free time.

Secondly I read every comment you guys post, but the problem is that most of them do not search for articles covering such doubts. Please do a search before posting any doubt( you can find he search box at the top of the right bar) .Also post your doubts in the form of points. It will be very easy to reply and adding some more details about yourself like your past performance, if you are repeating or not will surely help.

Ok back to the topic. We have asked students to rate BITSAT 2010 on the basis of the following points. And If you have given your BITSAT please mail me these details point wise or post them as comments. I will add the better ones here to this post.

1) Difficulty - Subject Wise
2) Areas in which you got the questions from Each Subject
3) Topics with the highest question
4) Time taken for completing the 150 questions
5) Did you attempt the Bonus questions? If so how many bonus questions did you attempt
6) Total Time taken including Bonus
7) What was the level of the bonus question

1) Maths was really easy...physics was average while chemistry was a bit tough.
2, 3) In Maths there were five questions from differential equations...n calculus had a lot of weightage..in physics.almost every topic had equal weightage...
in chem...there a lot of questions from physical chem..
4) I was able to do the questions in abt 2 hrs 38 min...
5) I didn't take the bonus questions..
9) I didn't take the bits exam sample test ...so i cant compare the level.

Kriti was one of the active participant of BITSexam community and she had scored 313 in here BITSAT. I am very grateful to her for here very descriptive reply.

1,2, 3) English was very easy. I left one question . Passage based questions, pattern identification, paper folding questions etc. were asked. I had practiced all these kinds of questions so there was nothing unexpected in the paper.

Chemistry was average. Not too much of organic and inorganic. Mostly physical. I also got one question from amino acids and isotherms each. Questions from ionic equilibrium, solutions, mole concept were asked. Mechanism and named reactions were not asked.

Physics was relatively easy keeping in mind that it is my weak point. Simple mechanics questions and no rotation. Few questions from thermodynamics were also asked. I don't remember any fluid mechanics questions being asked. I did get a long question from magnetism that required integration. Electrostatics was basic.
Maths was a bit on the tougher side. Got a question from linear programming also. Integration was very easy( 2-3 questions were asked). Got only one question on probability and none from PnC as far as I remember.

4) I attempted around 100 questions in one go with 45 mins to spare. Then I went back to the unanswered questions. I attempted 123 questions.

5,6,7) Did not attempt bonus questions

8) BITSexam tips helped me a lot because I has kept in mind a minimum of 120 questions for a score of over 300(as mentioned in your blog ). I had read all the tips before I took the exam.

Paper was very easy though there were few good level questions .But still apart from physics paper was easy .physics was tricky and had many aieee level lengthy questions .one needed very good practise at physics,otherwise maths and chemistry was very very easy .i just couldn't keep the speed when i started physics,it took toll on my concentration.frustrated at physics, English and logical part was easiest .I knew all 25 questions.

Aieee was actually really much tougher than BITS .Since bits is all bout moving constantly from one question to the next . And the questions were relatively easy actually ..English was easy except for a couple of quesions in which i had NO CLUE It is definitely a mix of both theory and rough work ...
well my test ..Physics was kind of tougher than I expected .. Maths was easier .. Chemistry was the same ..thing about chemistry was that it had several questions which are totally theory based..so its possible to complete REALLY quickly ..
And I attempted the last 12 which helped

FIREFOX BROWSER | OPERA BROWSER - but not Internet Explorer - especially Internet Explorer 6

Many of you have mailed me recently that the tests score are not generated after completing the tests. If you do not want to read all this technical stuff just check at the end of the post.

Since many of you use pirated Windows XP(Please buy an original Windows 7 - dont try Vista - it sucks) you do not have the complete Windows Update. Apart from having a long list of different VIRUS on your computer(you can always try the free antivirus like AVG or Avast) , you also have another idiotic product called as Internet Explorer 6. It is one of the worst products the world of internet has ever known, yet people begin their internet life on this stupid browser.


Internet Explorer 6 is Dead. It does not understand complex JavaScript, neither it is according to the standards by W3C. Our script we have used for BITSexam is based entirely on Ajax and Internet Explorer 6 does not even know what Ajax is. So please stop taking the test in Internet Explorer 6 and it would be better if you stop using Internet Explorer forever(let it be 7,8 or 9 - IE still sucks- Internet Explorer 8 is just ok - you can take your test there but no guarantees). Please prefer the better browsers like Firefox or Opera.


So in short Take Free BITSAT SAMPLE TESTS by BITSexam only on Firefox Browser or atleast Opera.

BITSAT order of attempting questions

Most of you will surely differ with me in this post and you are right to do so. This is for people who have no liking to a particular subject.

Many of you take the wrong order of attempting subjects and ultimately do not take a look at all the 150 questions.This will result in losing out on the easy memory based and single line answer questions. The preferred order should be

1) English and Logical Reasoning
2) Chemistry
3) Mathematics
4) Physics

The reasons are pretty simple. English & Logical Reasoning hardly takes any time to complete and one can easily attempt 20+ questions out of the 25. Then comes Chemistry which is majorly memory based. Either you know the answer or you dont. You save a lot of time by attempting these 2 sections first.

Then Maths - you can spend sufficient time here and complete many questions. And lastly Physics.As Physics is both tricky and lengthy, it is not advisable to start with Physics.But one must also manage the time properly.

As I have said before please do not spend more than 1 minute on any question, this way you will be able to attempt all 150 questions and still have enough time for the extra 12 questions are try to work on your mistake if any.

How to crack English in BITSAT English and Logical Reasoning - PART 1

Hi readers! I may not be a familiar person to most of you. I am Santosh Lakshman and am the other person behind BITSexam who works along with my friend Arvind. Today, I am going to give you some tips on how to crack English in BITSAT English & Logical Reasoning part.



As Arvind pointed out in his numerous blog posts earlier, BITSAT is a pretty straight forward exam with not much of lengthy problems or so, but instead with some what tricky questions. This principle behind BITSAT exams is one of the reasons for it containing English and Logical Reasoning in its Exam, as opposed to other Engineering entrance exams like IIT JEE and AIEEE. Another reason for BITS introducing English is because, BITS stresses highly on communication skills and aims to see you as the one with great crowd attracting skills.That is the reason why in any group of professionals, a BITSian is most probably the person who stands out.

Since most of us are spoon-fed with just technical knowledge and have neglected Languages and arts since childhood, English and Logical Reasoning seems like the most difficult of all the sections in BITSAT. This section has 25 questions overall and 15 questions are from English while 10 are from Logical Reasoning. I am sure, it will be very difficult to dramatically improve your language skills within this short span of time. Hence, its better you concentrate on some important concepts and models of questions.

I am going to divide this into two blogpost series- in this first one, I will explain what are the types of questions you can expect to see in your BISAT exam.In the second post, I will try to give you lessons on how to prepare for them and some good resources for that.

BITSAT English (for that matter any English related competitive exam), most of the times, comprises of 4 models of questions.They are :

• Synonyms and Antonyms
• Jumbled Paragraphs
• Questions on an essay
• Grammar

Synonyms and Antonyms: Basically, these questions are the type where you have to choose the option which is very much similar/opposite to a question.Sometimes, you can get a correlation question (like if Wood:tree :: Meat:?), though you might feel they belong to Logical Reasoning.

Jumbled Paragraphs: Jumbled Paragraphs are those kind of questions, where they take 4 or 5 sentences in a paragraph and jumble them. You have to predict the correct order of the sentences in the paragraph.

Questions on Essay: Here they give you an essay/paragraph for reading and ask you questions based on the paragraph. This type of questions in BITSAT are becoming difficult year-by-year and may not be as simple as you think they might be.

Grammar: This category can contain wide types of questions like Fill in the Blanks, Correct the sentence, Rewrite the sentence, Join the sentences etc. This type of questions can have lots and lots of varieties of questions and you got to do it with lots of care.Your board preparation will surely help you to crack such questions.

LAST MOMENT TIPS FOR BITSAT

Bitsat 2010 is going to start on May, 2010. BITSAT is the first undergraduate online entrance examination in India. Some of you might be taking BITSAT in the first week itself and so these tips would mostly help those guys. Others can take a look 2-3 days before the exam.

If you follow these tips or rather the guidelines it will really help you get a good score.

1) Revise the basic formulas and basic problems especially Chemistry
2) Spend more time recalling things in your brain
3) Do not study any new topic for these 2 days.
4) Attempt one BITSAT SAMPLE PAPER daily. You can check our Free BITSAT ONLINE TEST - Click Here
5) Do not worry about the questions from topics which you haven't studied unless they are memory based questions. If they are memory based questions, you know what to do :) ( Just by heart them)
6) Time is a crucial factor in BITSAT. Remember the no more than 1 minute per question rule.
7) Unlike a paper based test, you cannot know when an easy question will pop up on your screen. So it is essential that you atleast look at all the 150 questions.So again refer to point 6.
8) Carry an extra identification proof to the examination hall and do not forget your hall ticket :)
9) You are given a mini booklet for rough work. It is impossible to do the complete rough work on it. You need to utilize it to the maximum extent possible and prefer a pencil for rough work( and do not forget to take your eraser, just in case - though it is not advisable to waste your time on erasing those rough sheets)
10) Be relaxed all the time and reach the examination hall at least one hour in advance.

AIEEE 2010 Analysis by BITSexam | AIEEE 2010 EXPECTED RANK | AIEEE 2010 EXPECTED CUTOFF

Usually I talk less about AIEEE, IIT JEE , NIT's , IIT's and stick my agenda only to BITS and BITSAT. This year we conducted a poll on the level of the AIEEE 2010 question paper and we got a lot of responses(more than 3000).

See here is how the students felt about he toughness of AIEEE 2010

1. 31% - Tough
2. 27% - Moderate
3. 10% - Maths was tough
4. 17% - Physics was tough
5. 4% - Chemistry was tough
6. 8% - It was easy

It is clearly evident that the exam was in between moderate and tough. Many felt that Mathematics was very lengthy and Physics needed very good understanding of the basic concepts. But most students missed the trick here. They did not give much importance to Chemistry. As Chemistry was easy those who have actually given a serious preparation in Chemistry and most importantly started the paper with Chemistry will fare better in AIEEE 2010. Also it is important to be good with your basics especially in Physics. What most of them do is by heart few problems here and there and hope to crack the exams. Unless one does not understand the underlying concept it is tough to solve problems quickly in Physics.

And lastly Mathematics, you should not be deriving formulas in the examination. Why repeat the same stuff over and over again. Memorizing basic formulas especially in topics like Coordinate geometry will surely save a lot of time.Also do realize the importance of elimination. Even if you do not come close to an answer if you are able to eliminate two options then the probability of you going wrong is only 50%.

So hope AIEEE is a good lesson for you guys and not commit the same mistakes in BITSAT. Remember that in BITSAT you need to solve 150 questions in 180 minutes, roughly one minute per question.So the question will not be that tough but at the same time you need to cross a score of 300. So analyze your weak areas and hope you guys crack BITSAT 2010.

BROADBAND SPEED | INTERNET SPEED | NEW INTERNET CONNECTION for taking BITSexam FREE BITSAT SAMPLE TESTS

We have done a lot of changes to the code and the site and many improvements to the test model designed by us for BITSAT. We have taken the different broadband speeds and we have found out that the ideal speed would be 512kbps, though a 256kbps connection would also do. The tests are working fine with a minor lag when changing from one question to another ( less than 1 second). Since you need to be connected the whole of three hours for the test we recommend you to get a good internet connection.If it is in your budget prefer a wireless broadband as power cuts are quite common nowadays and internet does not work when the power is down with most broadband. Please do not prefer BSNL - its prime is over.Go for Airtel Broadband or Reliance Broadband or the one which is good in your area.



And yes we are working on the disconnected model and it was the primary reason we have not gone for PAID BITSAT TESTS this year.Also do not take tests in those noisy internet cafes. Your model test should be very close to the actual BITSAT and home environment is best for it.
